All Survivors & Squad Mechanics

There are 9 survivors in Yet Another Zombie Survivors after the 1.0 update, each with a unique leader perk and weapon line. Your team leader shapes the whole run - here is every survivor, what they do, and how to unlock them all.

Squad Mechanics & Survivor Roster

These are the squad mechanics and all playable survivors. The leader's perk doubles at each rank.

Team Leader
Pick one survivor to lead. They grant a passive leader perk (e.g. reload speed, armor).
Rescue
Free more survivors during a run. Max squad is 3 (leader + 2), rescued ones give 50% of their perk.
Auto Aim
Your squad aims and shoots on their own - you focus on moving and upgrading.
Manual Fire
Toggle manual firing to control shots and hit specific targets.
Rank Up
Survivors gain rank from kills as leader: 5,000 kills to rank 2, +20,000 to rank 3. Perks double each rank.
Prestige
Reach the top of a run and ascend to a higher state - the unique prestige system.

How to Build Your Squad

  1. Yet Another Zombie Survivors has no redeem codes - it is a paid Steam game. What you actually need are the squad mechanics that drive every run.
  2. Pick your team leader first. The leader's passive perk shapes the whole run - SWAT reloads faster, Tank gets extra armor, and so on.
  3. During the run, rescue up to two more survivors. Each adds their weapon and a half-strength perk to your squad.
  4. Rank up your leader by getting kills: 5,000 for rank 2, then another 20,000 for rank 3. Higher rank doubles the leader perk and unlocks new weapons and powerups.
  5. Survivors aim and shoot automatically, so your job is movement, dodging, and choosing upgrades. Toggle manual fire when you need to focus a boss or elite.

New Survivors in the 1.0 Update

The 1.0 update (August 2026) grew the roster to nine survivors. Mechanic and Ranger are the two newest additions.

Mechanic

Unlock: Achievement "Need A Hand?"

Signature: Cooling Mods · Ice conversion

Added in the 1.0 update. The Mechanic's Cooling Mods rewrite weapon damage to Ice - patch 1.0.0b reordered the damage instance so a one-hit kill now counts as Ice. A reliable route for the million-Ice-damage achievement.

Ranger

Unlock: Survival Level 175 ("Texas Ranger")

Signature: Crossbow · Kinetic

The ninth and final survivor in 1.0. The Ranger fights with her crossbow and animal companions Good Boy and Falcon, and is the only survivor who boosts the whole squad's Critical and Luck stats while also being able to heal allies.

Great Nade — the 1.0 Item

Earned as the reward for the "Why'd You Pick That?" achievement. Great Nade is one of 21 new items added in version 1.0 (August 2026); the patch notes moved it onto the "Why'd You Pick That?" achievement reward (previously Skip Rope).
